This weekend at the #vanlife meet up El Campo I will be speaking about all of the vehicle changes we’ve had over the last year, and what we’ve learned from them. I’ve spent the last couple of days gathering my thoughts and pulling images for the presentation and I’ve been surprised at how difficult it has been to look back at photos of our last rig Amelia (the 4x4 Sunrader). Our turn around from completing her build to selling her and then going back on the road was so fast that I don’t think I ever had a chance to really sort through what I was going though emotionally. Excerpt from the today’s blog post: Part 2 of our July on the road. “Once we were in Acadia, Bar Harbor, and the Ellsworth area we spent over a week working early in the day and enjoying all that the park had to offer in the afternoons and evenings. In that week we stayed at a Walmart parking lot every night with a group of regulars that never seemed to acknowledge one another despite my feelings of “being in this together”. It was easy to find historic libraries to work from, and then epic hikes to wear us out in the evening enough to not feel too bad about having to return to Walmart. While in Acadia it felt like the days ran together. We took so many photos that I think I will now just break them down by hike and include a little info about each spot. It feels like we’ve been living in the twilight zone the past few days. Since leaving Newfoundland four days ago we’ve traveled through 3 time zones (+1.5 EST, +1 EST & EST), 2 provinces (Newfoundland and Labrador & Quebec), we’ve covered 1710 km a lot of which was very much unpaved, remarkably few towns, and driven over 23 hours. It’s never our preference to travel this way, but the Trans-Labrador Highway is an impressively long highway made of dirt, sky, and trees giving few places to venture off the road into the vast wilderness that makes up Labrador. The reason for our speed is that today we’re back to work and in need of cell/internet connection. We’ve taken so many photos since being in Canada that it feels like we may never sort through them all. It’s just hard feel content sitting in front of a computer editing photos when we could be seeing more of it with our own two eyes. Especially because there aren’t a lot of days like this left this year for this part of Canada. Fall is setting in really quickly around here.
